HELP PROTECT GARDINER'S RURAL CHARACTER
PRESERVE THE HESS FARM
The Town of Gardiner and the Open Space Institute (OSI) are
again joining forces to preserve a working farm -- the Hess Farm, a 74-acre working farm that has been in operation since
the Civil War. This family farm is located at the corner of Sand Hill and
Marabac Roads, only a mile from the hamlet of Gardiner and just across the
street from the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail.
A federal grant will pay half the cost of protecting this family farm,
and OSI is expected to contribute another 25% of the cost. A conservation easement will be purchased
from Albert Hess, meaning his family farm can remain in farming forever, but
can never become a housing development. So we already have 75% of the funds needed to protect this
farm! But we still need to raise an additional
$112,500. The Town of Gardiner’s Open Space Commission is seeking
funds from private and family foundations and other organizations committed to
farmland protection. But you can also help. Your contribution will help protect this farm
for generations to come. All
contributions are tax-deductible. Mail
your check (made payable to “Town of Gardiner”) to Open Space Fund, Town of
Gardiner, P.O. Box 1, Gardiner, N.Y. 12525.
Or donate on-line using the PayPal link below. Working farms are vital to our local economy and our sense
of community. Local produce and
livestock are invaluable ingredients in a sustainable economy and healthy
living. Will you help?
THANK YOU!
